Meetup Recap: AI and Analytics Engineering
Plus: App Manager Philipp Hörner on ABB's AI strategymannheim.ai meetup #1
Last Wednesday we held our first meetup for data enthusiasts in Mannheim. We had fun discussing AI and analytics engineering with business informatics/data science students of the University of Mannheim and our guest Philipp (ABB).
ABB is a leading electrification and automation company with a market cap of 87B CHF (92B EUR) operating in over 100 countries. Its German branch is headquartered in Mannheim.
Philipp Hörner spends some of his working hours developing use cases for AI at ABB where he has been wrangling data with Power BI for 4+ years.
One of the hottest data jobs right now
We started off with taking a closer look at one of the hottest data jobs right now: the analytics engineer. Simply put, analytics engineer = data engineer + data scientist.
Drawing on our research, we gave a quick introduction to what the role of an analytics engineer actually entails. In particular, we focused on typical tasks and commonly used tools (incl. latest trends in boosting coder productivity).
Analytics engineering and AI at ABB
Next, guest speaker Philipp shared insights into how data is leveraged and made available at ABB. He laid out how the company encourages its employees to use AI for internal purposes as well as for client-facing products. All AI-initiatives at ABB are published internally, fostering a collaborative environment.
Working student job at ABB
Philipp ended on a high note with a current AI-focused student job opening at ABB and a Q&A.
All's well that ends well
After our talks we mingled over pizza and beer/soft drinks. We had a great time getting to know everybody. Thank you for coming!
